READING BLOG 1: The Most Expensive GIF Of All Time

This 2014 article took an interesting approach at explaining digital art and its inferred evolution. Michael Green created a GIF of Jeff Koons famous Balloon Dog. By taking several digital images and putting them together he creates the illusion of Koons Balloon Dog deflating, calling it Balloon Dog Deflated. Although the GIF is already an accurate representation of its title, the name goes beyond what was created. The deflation of this iconic piece created by Green was meant to showcase the growth of digital media and saying goodbye to old traditions. The physicality of art is starting to pass whereas digital is beginning to flourish.

The modern world is jumping into a new realm of art that seems to match up to their time on this earth rather than looking back to what once was. The origins of certain media and art works will always be an inspiration. They will always claim their individual importance, but that importance has begun to stay within its own historical realm. There is a beautiful history to many artworks and a history that explores the mediums themselves. There was usually once question and doubt surrounding if that art should be presented as art. Or in general what is considered art?

The progression of art is still continuing and we are seeing major productions of digital art and a prominent lean to a digital era. Digital art has become a culture in ways of accessibility and possibilities. They are almost endless. I think the art that is being produced digitally in our current age will have an extreme lasting effect. We are still discovering new ways to go about digital art and new ways to produce it. Digital art will start to become the voice of our age and in return will begin to inspire new forms of art.
